The Inner Journey of the Soul

There is a higher spiritual path to your life, but it's not one that can be identified by measures of the outer world. It is the inner journey of the soul. It is your soul that is the intelligence underlying your life path -- not your conscious mind, as many like to think -- and it is your soul's desire which governs both how you are to evolve within consciousness and how the Divine uniquely expresses through your physical incarnation--your magnificent and precious life.

At the same time, our soul is that which exists inclusive and beyond the personality, life circumstances and our personal "story." Looked at this way, the soul greatly supports a richer understanding of how and why the soul chooses its incarnations with its exquisitely planned life course and how it sets up many different opportunities for soul remembering. Our soul is calling us to remember our true identity...who we are beyond your job, your personality, your family identity, your possessions or bank account balance. By bringing the inner journey to conscious awareness, we heal and grow in our spiritual nature. This is the way of the soul and of one who is awakening to the depths of enlightening awareness.

In terms of session frequency, most people adopt an 'as-needed' approach to scheduling their next session, listening to their inner guidance to let them know when and how often that is. Despite what our minds think, healing and soul-discovery is a life-long process, not a one-time quick-fix solution. Our lives are works in progress and we are magnificently complex beings. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D. was internationally known for her pioneering work to raise America's consciousness on the subject of death and dying. She authored many books, her last being "The Wheel of Life, A Memoir of Living and Dying" (1995). Her life is a testament that it is through embracing death that we learn to truly live. In her final statement, she exhorts us to live fully and to love...

"It is very important that you do only what you love to do. You may be poor, you may go hungry, you may live in a shabby place, but you will totally live. And at the end of your days, you will bless your life because you have done what you came here to do."

Searching for Success

In Jungian Psychology, dreams are referred to as 'the royal road to the Self' and also 'the window to the soul.' They bring us guidance, insights and meaning from that deep source within. The unconscious realm often communicates to us in imagery and symbols, which is why the meaning of dreams can seem puzzling to our logical minds. I had a simple dream several years back that I'd like to share. Though filled with wonderful Jungian symbolism, its main message was quite clear and direct. It came to me at a time when things in my outer life weren't working so well and I couldn't seem to find my way. My soul was helping me learn a new definition of success and where to find it.

In the dream, I was walking along a city's streets filled with tall skyscrapers, but empty of cars and people. As I walked, I came across the only other person in the city, a Black man who happened to be working that day. Working out of his large parked van, he was putting up huge photos of smiling people on billboards all around the city, one large smiling face per billboard. By all indications, he seemed very successful, happy and fulfilled in his work, and at the same time humble and approachable. I walked up and asked him what his secret was. He stopped, looked up, smiled at me, and in no uncertain terms, calmly and clearly replied, "Follow your soul."

I was then driving out of the city on the bridge with other cars and I saw him in the lane next to me. He was now driving a very fancy car and was with his wife and two kids, all smiling and waving to me as they passed by. I later realized that the happy photos he was posting on billboards around the city were of others who had followed his advice and had found true success and happiness. They were larger than life and being positioned "above" the worldly level of work and success of the city.

The soul's message: There is a realm of true success and fulfillment that is to be found beyond the outer world's definition and teachings. And only our soul knows what that is for each of us.
